This past week and for the next few weeks in social studies our class will be focussing on Canada’s Links to the World. This unit dives into topics such as global citizenship, Canada and US relations, trade, human rights, global issues, and non-governmental and not for profit organizations. The students will take part in learning activities that are designed to teach them about Canada’s connections to the world and that they are global citizens who can make a positive difference in today’s global society. The culminating final task for this unit will be based on a global issue of their choosing and develop an action plan of how they can make a difference!

There are a lot of steps and calculations involved in this process, and it is one of the more difficult concepts for many students in the grade 6 curriculum. It is very important that students show all of the steps towards a solution. Students have math homework booklets to take home, as well as duotangs and math notebooks. The students were assigned two questions to work on today. I would like them all to finish those two questions, and review the steps so that they have a firm understanding before Monday. They can draw their own rectangular and triangular prisms and show someone at home how to solve for the surface area. This would help to solidify their understanding. Here is a link for a few youtube videos to help clarify the steps. For many of you, I’m sure it’s been awhile since you had to calculate surface area. Surface Area of Right Prisms
